How to sew plisse skirt with elastic waistband – diy tutorial.
We girls can actually do without creases very well – unless these are wonderfully pretty plisse skirts that can be seen everywhere!
This great, green plisse skirt comes from the current autumn / winter collection by Milliblu’s.
If you are wondering how the elastic waistband is sewn to the skirt, we have prepared some instructions for you.
HOW TO SEW PLISSE SKIRT WITH ELASTIC WAISTBAND
The very fine, high-quality fabric from Milliblu’s is a plisse chiffon fabric. The fabric is slightly transparent and wonderfully light. To sew such fabrics, you should already have some sewing experience in order to achieve a good result.
You can read about how to cut a plisse skirt in this post at MILLIBLU’S.
On our online shop, traders will find many beautiful plisse fabrics. Some of these fabrics can also be processed with open edges, such as this fabric, from the new spring / summer collection 2021 by Milliblu’s, item no. 990264. This plisse fabric is much easier to work with and does not have to be hemmed, for example.
We would be happy to advise you on this!

PLISSE SKIRT HEM SEWING
For the hem of a plisse skirt, it is wonderful to sew a rolled hem with an overlock machine.

SEWING THE SKIRT
Once the fabric has been cut to your measurements and the hem has been finished, you can now put the skirt, right sides together and sew the fabric edges together. It’s best to start at the bottom, making sure that the lower fabric edges are nicely flush.
Now it’s time for the pleats.
To sew on the elastic band, you first have to fix the pleats on the top edge of the skirt.
Place the fabric under the foot of your sewing machine, push the folds together while sewing and stitch them approx. 0.5 cm from the cut edge. You can also used oins or clips to hold the pleats in place.
SEWING ON THE ELASTIC BAND
Cut a rubber band to your waist size + 2cm seam allowance. Place the short rubber band edges right sides together and sew them together. Stitch the seam allowances in place.
Quarter the elastic band and the top edge of the skirt and mark the places with fabric clips or pins.
Place the elastic band left sides together on the top edge of the skirt. Make sure that the markings meet here.
The elastic is about 1cm above the top edge of the skirt.
Stretch the elastic band, preferably from the right side on the skirt and sew with a with a stretchable stitch (e.g. with a small zigzag). If this is too complicated for you, you can sew from the left. In addition, you can put a second seam next to it, so the upper edge of the fabric is sewn neatly to the elastic.
